Rockabillys Drop Fourth Straight After 5-2 Loss to Illinois Valley
JACKSON, Tenn.- The Pistol Shrimp stiff armed the Rockabillys over nine innings and eased their way into a 5-2 victory Friday afternoon, in what became the fourth straight defeat for Jackson.
Illinois Valley popped a homer in the second to take a lead, but Jackson would clock in a run in the third off the back of a Gregory Berroa sacrifice fly that plated Adriel Vega.
A pair of runs came around in the fourth for Illinois Valley, before the Goats would once again respond with a run. With bases loaded and nobody out, Merik Carter walked and scored a vital run, setting up the Rockabillys for what seemed like a fantastic inning.
However, the next three at-bats went down as a popout and two strikeouts, and Illinois Valley escaped the inning relatively unscathed. All signs point to that missed opportunity as the moment when things went downhill for the Rockabillys.
Jett Sutton did phenomenal in relief, but after he was pulled with one out in the seventh, Jacob Rossi would come in and gave up a couple more runs, sealing the Goats' fate.
A fantastic 2025 debut performance from Carter, and a relatively good hitting night was pushed to the wayside as Jackson failed to convert in key spots, and dropped the contest to the Pistol Shrimp.
Missed Opportunities
The Rockabillys stranded double digit baserunners on, and simultaneously, dropped their third game to Illinois Valley in as many tries. Jackson will look for their franchise's first victory over the Pistol Shrimp tonight.
Goats Notes: The Goats get another chance versus Illinois Valley tonight at 7:00 p.m. CDT at Rockabillys Stadium.
