Jackson Compounds Mistakes, Drops Game at Cape
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.- For the sixth time in as many tries, the Rockabillys failed to beat the Catfish and lost 11-4 Tuesday evening.
Action for the 'Billys began in the third inning, with one of the hottest bats on the team in Ivan Vega snagging a single that scored Drew McConnell. This was followed by a trio of runs in the fourth and fifth, as Jack Pitts plated a pair thanks to a Cape error. Then, newcomer Drew Blalock acquainted himself with his new squad by blasting a solo homer to right.
With a two run lead, the Rockabillys looked to try and stiff arm the Catfish and keep them far away enough for 'Billys to escape with a road win. Instead, the Rockabillys would give away free bases and commit multiple errors, which allowed Cape to score nine unanswered runs over the next three innings.
Unfortunately, the dominant Cape offense gave the Rockabillys pitching staff fits, as Lawson Ryan and Nathan Rhodes both had a difficult time containing the Catfish at the dish, giving up eight runs over six innings between the two.
The late outburst on the road was far too much for the Goats to handle, and the second game of the second half fell in the wrong direction.
Thorn in the Side
After the season series began at a dead even 2-2 record, the Catfish have proceeded to take six straight against the Rockabillys, including two games in Jackson. That accounts for half of the Rockabillys home losses this year. The Goats have three more opportunities for revenge, with two of the remaining contests versus Cape being held in the Volunteer State.
Goats Notes: The Rockabillys look to recover tonight versus Thrillville in Marion, Ill. First pitch is currently set for 7:00 p.m. CDT.
