Cape Outlasts Jackson in High-Scoring Slugfest

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.- In a game that took a little over four hours to complete, the Rockabillys faced heartbreak once again as the Catfish walked it off in the 11th inning, winning 15-13.

The Goats utilized seven different pitchers in hopes of finding an effective solution for the Cape offense that was giving them fits. Unfortunately, there were not any answers to speak of for the explosive Catfish performance, with Cape putting up the most runs of any team versus the Rockabillys this year.

Jackson did their best to overcome an early five run deficit, and in fact, the Rockabillys eventually built a four run lead of their own after scoring six in the second, one in the third, and two in the fourth.

There were too many offensive performances to highlight as three different 'Billys managed three hits or more. This included Parks Bouck and Ivan Vega, who each recorded three. But the man of the hour certainly would go to Jake Maddox, who went 5-for-6 in one of the best single game performances in Rockabillys history.

Both teams traded punches, until the Catfish delivered a game-breaking uppercut with a seven run sixth inning, forcing Jackson to frantically attempt a comeback. Wouldn't you know it, this experienced Rockabillys squad powered their way back, with Jack Pitts smacking a single in the ninth to tie it up.

Despite the inspired effort down the stretch, Jackson failed to convert on an opportunity with two runners in scoring position and nobody out in the top of the 11th, and the Catfish walked it off with a homer to right in the bottom half.

Back to the Chase

With a pair of losses to Cape, the Rockabillys are back to the hunt for the top spot in the South. They'll need to stay strong and move on from these losses, as seven of their next ten games are road contests.

Goats Notes: The Rockabillys have an exhibition contest tonight at 7:00 p.m. CDT versus the Thrillville Thrillbillies. Their next official game is the first of a doubleheader, which is currently set for 5:05 p.m. CDT in Marion, Ill against Thrillville.
