Last Minute Surge Secures Victory for Rockabillys
ALTON, Ill.- The River Dragons had caged the Rockabillys offense for seven innings, but must've forgot to hide the key, as Jackson broke free and took home their seventh straight win by defeating Alton 5-3.
The Goats made the first move, with Ivan Vega plating Jake Maddox on a single to right, keeping his momentum from his previous 2-for-3 performance.
However, Alton would counter with two runs of their own in the fourth and fifth, and suddenly the contest was deadlocked at 2-to-1. With solid performances from starters Cooper Casteel and Jackson Parrill, it seemed that the contest was destined to end with that score still stuck.
Thankfully, the Goats powered through and shocked the River Dragons with a four run outburst in the eighth and ninth. Drake Blackwood hit a bomb in the top of the eighth, which marked his second consecutive game with a homer. Newcomer Charlie Jury would round out the frame and not only plate a run on an RBI double, but score himself on a failed pickoff attempt.
Then in the ninth, Adriel Vega gave the 'Billys some much needed insurance with a double to center that would score Drew McConnell. Jaxson Lucas was called upon to close the game for a second straight night, and struck out the side to notch Jackson another win.
Waiter! I'll Have Another!
With the win tonight, the Rockabillys have now set a franchise record for consecutive wins in a season. The previous record was set at six games straight in early July of 2024.
Goats Notes: With two road wins in their back pocket, the Rockabillys return home to face the Cape Catfish tonight at 7:00 p.m. CDT. It is also Toyota Employees Night at the Rockabillys Stadium!
