Stellar Relief Pitching Leads Jackson to Victory Over Normal

Stellar Relief Pitching Leads Jackson to Victory Over Normal

JACKSON, Tenn.- The Rockabillys bullpen had all the swagger you'd expect from a squad that has been at their best as of late, and locked up a CornBelters offense to defeat Normal 5-4.

The Belters struck first in the second, with an error by first baseman Mason Acton allowing a run to cross. But, this lead for Normal was short-lived. The Goats mustered up three runs, and utilized two balks by CornBelters starter Luka Zikman, and a single from Jack Pitts to do so.

The following frame saw an immediate response from Normal, scoring one on the second Jackson error, and another on a sacrifice fly from their nine hole hitter Shea Zbrozek.

Then in the fifth, Pitts would strike again with an RBI double, although he attempted to extend this into a triple and was gunned down at third in the process. An important insurance run was plated in the following inning by Cameron Greene, who popped a sacrifice fly to deep center field to score Adriel Vega.

Jaxson Lucas was brought in to collect a save and avenge his outing from a night prior, and while the CornBelters scored one, Lucas wouldn't let them beat him again. He would collect his fourth save of the year, and the 'Billys would snag their second straight win.

The bullpen combination of Lucas, Hunter McLemore, and Merrick Hill went five innings, striking out nine, and allowing just four hits, guiding Jackson to the win.

Goats Notes: The series finale is set for tonight at 7:00 p.m. CDT at Rockabillys Stadium. It is also Texas Roadhouse Family Night, at the Father's Day celebration.
