Jackson Loses Boat Race to Cape for Second Consecutive Defeat
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.- The gauntlet continued for the Rockabillys in Tuesday's contest, as their well-acquainted opponent outmatched the Goats in a high-scoring 13-7 affair.
The Catfish struck first, taking advantage of an error from Brooks Jones to snag an early lead in the second. This was remedied immediately by the visitors on a Mason Acton hit-by-pitch with bases loaded.
The tone was set from that moment on, as both teams would trade jabs. Cape hit a couple big body blows, leading by five, and forcing the 'Billys to retreat to the corner. But, for those who haven't paid any attention to this year's Jackson Rockabillys, this team will fight until the bell sounds.
And so they hunkered down, and when the time was right, they came out with some jaw-rattling uppercuts. That time came in the fifth, and it was mostly thanks to Cameron Greene that the Goats managed to gain some momentum. Of their four runs in the top frame, three of them belonged to Greene. He lined a double into left center before eventually being waved around to score himself on a Jones ground out.
But even with this newfound momentum shift, and the tide turning in the metaphorical ring, the Catfish fought back. Cape would scratch two across in the bottom of the fifth, one in the sixth, and three in the eighth for good measure.
Unfortunately, these blows added up and knocked out a Rockabillys offense that could only muster one more run following their huge fifth inning.
Webb Watson went 3-for-5, Greene went 2-for-4, and reliever Nathan Rhodes held Cape scoreless in his inning on the bump, but alas, down went the Rockabillys in this south division bout.
No Days Off
The Prospect League offers an extremely demanding schedule, but for the Rockabillys, the added difficulty in the south division can mount at times. This felt like one of those cases where the Goats did enough to win this game, but were simply outslugged by a Cape team that has historically had Jackson's number at Capaha Field. Nonetheless, it is just the first time we've seen the Rockabillys drop consecutive games in 2025.
Goats Notes: The Goats look for a return to form in O'Fallon, where they have the final two games of their road trip. First pitch tonight is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. CDT.
