Rockabillys Run-Ruled by Alton

ALTON, Ill.- The River Dragons didn't hold their punches in a stomping of the Rockabillys, 12-2.

Alton delivered the a haymaker in the first with a two-run bomb to left field from Caleb Clealand, which was followed by a Zane Timon RBI single, giving the home team an early three run lead. That wasn't quite enough for the River Dragons though, as they snagged five more runs utilizing multiple avenues including an error, a sacrifice fly, a double, and another long ball from Clealand.

An eight run deficit was a familiar sight for the Rockabillys against their foes from the Land of Lincoln, as Jackson took game three against Alton after once trailing by that exact amount. However, the mistakes of the past were not to be repeated here.

Despite some fight in the fifth from the combo of Brett RogersWebb Watson, and Brooks Jones, they simply could not keep pace with the River Dragon's offensive output.

Alton would immediately respond to the pair of runs scored by the Rockabillys by knocking in a run in the sixth. Then they'd end the game on short notice, with three runs and a de facto walk-off from left fielder Kyle Campbell coming in the eighth.

On the Bright Side...

Despite a poor showing all-around tonight from the Goats, Jones was able to go one-for-three from the plate, and reliever Connor Busson put together a solid three innings out of the bullpen. The loss did knock Jackson down a peg, but they are still fully in the race for the Western Conference, trailing the leading Cape Catfish by half a game.

Goats Notes: The Rockabillys get a day off tonight before returning to action tomorrow, June 10, in a matchup with the Western Conference leaders at 6:35 p.m. in Cape Girardeau.
